NEWS FOR ANALOG PHOTOGRAPHERS

A few days ago Kodak reported a net loss of $46 million on revenues of $379 million for their third quarter of 2017.  That caused Kodak to announce the layoff of 425 workers.  Thus it must be considered good news that Kodak announced that this has not influenced Kodak Ektachrome film to be made available again in 2018.

According to Kodak:

“The process is coming along really well.  We’ve been busy testing and making sure it meets all the expectations that exist in this passionate community.”

One of the reasons for the new Ektachrome not reappearing any sooner is the fact that Kodak is installing new film making equipment which is substantially smaller than what was the case during Kodak’s glory days.  This was deemed necessary because the old equipment would have been exceedingly more costly to use.

A little more patience and one of the old icons of analog photography will once again be available.
